For over 37 years, Claremont Rug Company has offered the most inspired Persian and antique Oriental rugs, purchasing entire antique carpet collections and hand selecting only those pieces we term "art-level." These singular rare, collectible and decorative antique rugs represent the very best city, town, village and nomadic carpet weavings created in the 19th to the turn of the 20th century. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have successfully assisted a great number of our long distance clients in locations as far ranging as Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Houston, Dallas, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, Europe and South America among many others. Many clients have furnished entire estates with Oriental and Persian rugs using our convenient "whole home" service. Pictures of some of these projects can be seen in the Client Interiors and Whole Home sections of the website. We hope you will find browsing the Claremont Rug Company website to be tremendously enriching and educational. Our online gallery offers a vast collection of high-resolution images of 19th century and turn of the 20th century decorative carpets, collectible antique Caucasian rugs, antique tribal rugs, formal antique Persian room size rugs and runners, and rarely found oversize and palace size antique Oriental carpets. Jan David Winitz, President and founder Claremont Rug Company in Oakland, CA, has built a global reputation among carpet collectors and connoisseurs since he founded the company—at age 25—in 1980. Born into a New York family of art collectors and scientists, “Winitz inherited two things from his grandmother: a collection of great rugs and a love of art.” (Financial Times). His stated vision was, “to introduce fine families to antique carpets possessing equal or greater artistic magnitude to works of art usually displayed on the wall.” Claremont Rug Company continues to be a leading source of antique art-level Oriental carpets in the world. The author of “The Guide to Purchasing an Oriental Rug”, Winitz has a global clientele for whom antique rugs are a great passion.
